The Resistance: Avalon pits the forces of Good and Evil in a battle to control the future of civilization. Arthur represents the future of Britain, a promise of prosperity and honor, yet hidden among his brave warriors are Mordred's unscrupulous minions. These forces of evil are few in number but have knowledge of each other and remain hidden from all but one of Arthur's servants. Merlin alone knows the agents of evil, but he must speak of this only in riddles. If his true identity is discovered, all will be lost.

The Resistance: Avalon is a standalone game, and while The Resistance is not required to play, the games are compatible and can be combined.

The Resistance: Avalon is a social deduction board game developed by the game designer, Don Eskridge.

For a more modern audience, it is better to describe Avalon as an Among Us style board game where players use deductive reasoning to figure out the imposters among them.

The game style is very similar, but what sets Avalon apart is that it a very simple game with a few loops here and there that make it a ton of fun in any group environment.

The game follows simple, and easy to follow rules, that we will get into in a bit, that anyone can figure out easily. And start playing the game within minutes of learning them.

Game Rules:

Avalon normally requires from 5 to 10 players on average, where the players are divided into two teams.

The number of evil players varies in each game. If there are 6 total players, then there will be 2 evil players and 4 just players.

The division is done by having each player choose from a face-down deck of cards.

Each card has a designated role written on it, that determines whether the player will be playing an evil imposter, or a loyal follower.

The good guys in Avalon are called, “The Loyal Servants of Arthur” and the bad guys, are called the “Minions of Mordred”.

The players are required to not reveal their identities to any other players, except for the evil faction. As the Mordred’s will know the identity of each other right at the start of the game.

The game starts with one player taking the role of the leader, and that player then designates a certain group of players to fulfil a mission.

The players then vote; if they think that the team is made of trustworthy people, they vote yes.

But on the other hand, if they disagree, then another leader is chosen and the process repeats once more.

However, be warned, if the players fail to choose on a team five times in a row, then Minion of Mordred will automatically win the game.

When a party is properly chosen to take on a mission by a majority vote, the selected members are then given cards. With which the selected groups then vote anonymously if the mission will succeed or not.

If there is just one card that says that the mission will fail, then the party will lose that mission, and the next leader groups together another team to take on the next mission.

There are a total of 5 missions in Avalon. If the Loyal Servants of Arthur succeed in 3 missions, then they win the game. And on the other side; if the Minions of Mordred's are able to fail 3 missions, then they win the game.
So, Avalon is all about reading the situation, how other players are acting. Who is lying? And who is trying to put the group into chaos?

In the game, everything is on the line to figure out who the imposters are, so they can’t sabotage the mission.
But, Avalon has a catch.

On Arthur’s side, one player is always designated the place of Merlin. Now, the special thing about Merlin is that he knows the identity of the imposters.

But, he can’t reveal the fact that he is Merlin. Because, when the Servants of Arthur complete three missions and are on the verge of winning.

The imposters are given 1 chance to figure out who Merlin is.

If they guess right, then again, the Servants of Arthur will lose the game.

However, to make the game even more fun, aside from Merlin there are other special designations in Avalon.

The Assassin designation on the Mordred’s side is tasked with figuring pointing out the identity of Merlin at the end of the game.

Then, at Arthur's side, to balance out the odds, we have Percival.

Now, Percival here is a simple man who knows the true identity of Merlin, but his job is to prevent Assassin from finding out who Merlin is.

But to counter Percival, on the Mordred's side, we have Morgana; who disguises herself as Merlin.

And then to even fool Merlin, we have Mordred whose identity is not revealed to Merlin.

Plus, if you have a full table, Oberon also comes in as an Evil character whose identity is not revealed, even to his fellow Mordred Minions.

Avalon then has a Lady of the lake card.

After the second round, the player who has the Lady of the Lake card can secretly choose to look at the color of another player’s card. They can then choose to reveal that information to the other players or not. The player that they choose then gets the lady of the Lake card for the next round.

During all of this, the players are allowed to point fingers, call out on the players who they think are imposters. And even banter around to make the game even more intense.

The simple rules of Avalon are set as such they put the players through complicated interactions.

Where they have to suspect their friends, and survive through a game where they don't even know who their enemy is, and who they can trust.

Avalon is not a hard game, and once you figure out all of its rules. You are essentially set for one of the best social deductive games out there.

The enjoyment of the game depends entirely on the group that you are playing with.

If your group mates are not that perceptive of their environment. And can't figure it out when someone is lying to them.

Then you can play aggressively and win a match easily.

But against players who are observant. And can figure out if some is lying to them and put off others to slip up.
Then you are in for a dramatic game filled with emotions and just pure laughter.
